The Mattapan Arts Council (M.A.C.) is planning to re-purpose public space for placemaking activities near Mattapan Square. M.A.C. is requesting proposals from visual artists to make a small public building on the Neponset River Greenway ‘pop’ with light, sound and/or visual effects.
The proposal(s) selected will be incorporated into our broader campaign to prepare Mattapan Square for the Fairmount Cultural Corridor’s arrival here in early 2019. We hope to create a culturally-relevant visual transformation and permanent beautification with paint, 3D materials, technology-based art or any other art materials not contemplated here.
Your proposal should include the following:
• a 500-word description of the art planned;
• a timeline for design, fabrication, and installation;
• a budget for artist fees and materials; and,
• a bio with photos, video or links to the artist’s past art projects.
Proposals should be submitted by midnight on Monday, April 24th to . This historic building is situated next to the Mattapan T Station just off Blue Hill Avenue near Mattapan Square, and proximate to “Rise/Gateway,” by Fern Cunningham and Karen Eutemey.
